Our Story & Philosophy

Rooted in Tradition

Who We Are

The Sivananda lineage is a stream of knowledge passed from Guru to disciple. It begins with Swami Sivananda of Rishikesh — a saint known for his kindness, clarity, and tireless service.

His main disciple, Swami Vishnudevananda, carried these teachings across the world and opened the first Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Centres and Ashrams. Every class, every chant, and every act of service carries the blessing of this simple tradition.

Swami Sivananda (1887–1963)

Founder of the Divine Life Society, Rishikesh. Author of over 200 books on yoga, philosophy, and medicine. His mission: "Serve. Love. Give. Purify. Meditate. Realise."

Swami Vishnudevananda (1927–1993)

Disciple of Swami Sivananda. Established over 80 Centres and Ashrams worldwide. Author of "The Complete Illustrated Book of Yoga."
